To all members

The committee would firstly like to thank all of our bailiffs and volunteers who work hard in keeping our waters clean and tidy. This ranges from maintenance of our waters to the cleanliness of our toilets. Without all of you our waters would be in a much poorer state.

If you want to be a volunteer or a prospective bailiff then please contact a member of the committee.

Sivvys and Eric’s lakes, along with Lyne, will again be open all year round as from this April. Please note that pegs will be closed due to maintenance work during April on all lakes. Swims at these venues need replacing, this is especially needed at Sivyers.

Update on our waters

Lyne Lake

Last spring closed season several committee and general members replaced nearly all the swims here with new platforms with the surface covered in artificial grass surface. There has been some criticism regarding the size of some of the platforms, well if more members had supported those that put themselves to help with the work they could have had an input to their construction. The average age of those who completed the work was 68.

Areas of the dam end were reinforced with concrete in areas due to fish undercutting the banks making them unsafe.

You may have noticed that the fences have been re-inforced with Razor wire to discourage unwelcome visitors, this has largely been successful but some seem to be entering via the large house on the hill.

We will continue to monitor and take action we deem appropriate.

Sivyers

In April/May it is intended to replaced most of the swims on the caravan bank, this will involve areas of the lake being closed. We require support from the membership to help complete this work so please offer your services.

Sivyers continues to be our most popular lake. All methods work at Sivyers and during the summer the fish can be caught close to the bank especially during the evenings. The lake is worth fishing during the colder months as the carp are still active and fishing single baits work well.

Erics

Erics has picked up especially during the warmer months with different species of fish being caught.

During the winter you have to fine down and work for your fish but it is worth it.

An unusual weed has appeared in the pond this year and it appears that it could have only been introduced from someone’s aquarium, it needs to be eradicated as it is not beneficial to the fisheries. Anyone introducing anything unofficially to our waters is liable to be banned for life.

The lake had to be closed for fishing in late 2025 due to the very low water levels but has now re-opened for fishing. This seems to be an annual event as we seem to lose water as the water table drops, we are investigating how to stop this but will most probably be a long-term project.

The Creek

We have heard reports of good Barbel and Chub being caught during the river season. To date the best barbel is reported at near 17lb but anglers are keeping quiet on what is being captured.

Matches

We have a healthy match scene with weekly matches. During the summer we have an evening league and in the winter there is a silvers league. We also fish in a teams of 6 against two other local clubs. If you want further details, please contact Roger Bell (phone number on the match card) who takes over running the matches from May this year.

If you are planning to go pleasure fishing, please check consult the match card to see if the lake is being used for a match and closed for that period.

Guest Tickets

Just a reminder to members that guest tickets are only available from the head bailiff, Dale Millis, and no other method. These need to be applied for in advance, not the day before, Do Not contact at an inappropriate time. These are charged at a cost of £10 and if possible, please pay by cash.

Membership

The subs for this year will stay the same as last season. We have decided to reduce the entry fee for new members from £50 to £20 for adults as to encourage new members as the membership has fallen since the covid years when the membership was full.

If your membership photo is more than 8 years old, please provide an up-to-date photo with your renewal, some members have photos that must be over 25 years old. If you have digital photos they can be sent to the email address on the application form. Those not complying may have their applications returned.

Please find a membership renewal form enclosed, these need to be returned by the 30th April 2026, please do not leave it till the last minute to renew, as any received after this date will mean that you would have to pay the entry fee as a new member. Also please ensure that the renewal includes 2 self-addressed envelopes with your renewal. Please note that we are still receiving the odd post that has the incorrect postage, this means that the post office wants to collect excess postage from us, we will not pay this, so it gets left at the sorting office.

The membership opens for new members from the 1st May, there is not currently a waiting list as many members believe.

Other News

When you receive your renewal form, please send it back asap with the correct self-addressed envelopes, those that do not comply will be returned to sender.

This is a warning to all members. This season several ornamental fish have been caught out of Lyne and Sivyers. These have obviously been introduced from people’s ponds. This is highly dangerous to our fish stocks, if caught members will be banned for life, no excuses.

Finally we wish you tight lines for the upcoming season.
